Motorcycle kept in storage for few years- What to do?

by Goldie 11. June 2010 05:09

In the previous blog posts we tried to solve several problems with motorcycles and motorcycle parts. Today we will come up with question: What should we do if we have sleeping beauty (motorcycle) in our garage?

If we kept motorcycle in storage for few years, the motorcycle got rusty and we need to do something to wake it up. At least we can do is to bring coffee or vitamin juice.  Since the motorcycle isn’t human being we should get dirty a little bit to bring it on start position.

You should know that you’ll have problems with starting the motorcycle, for sure; it could fire for second and will be dead in a few seconds. What should you do?

The carburetors needs an overhaul, as well as checking the whole fuel system for oil gasoline deposits and varnish.

After few years, all the idle jets are plugged up and there is a lot of gummy stuff in the float bowls.

You should install a new battery, because the ignition system needs a fully charged battery to run. Big concerns are carburetor, fuel tank, fuel petcock, fuel lines that must be cleaned first.

We hope getting dirty and installing new motorcycle parts, helped in waking up your sleeping motorcycle.
